First, I have to say, jetlag sucks. I took off from work today because I barely slept, and my body last night was all like: Why are you making me stay up so late I HATE YOU. But then I woke up at 3 am and it was asking me: WHERE IS THE SUN??? It is a little baffled, inner-clock-wise.
But! I am home from my whirlwind trip to Dublin. It was so fun! The conference was awesome, because I got to hear a whole bunch of very smart scholars from all over the world say very smart things, and getting a bunch of nerdy international folks together is fun, so the company over drinks and dinner afterwards was just stellar.
My colleague from journal and I had a free day, so we went to Howth (rhymes with "both"), which is the oldest fishing village in Dublin, and walked along the cliffs. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and it was so lovely.
Also, in the harbor, there were seals! Just kinda bumming about, waiting to get fed.
And then we wandered about, and found an abbey, and a castle, because, you know, Ireland.
We found this crumbling old building by the castle without a roof, and I am not sure what it would have been used for, but with the light coming through the trees, it was magical. Yup, that's me wandering around inside. And the second picture I took from the inside.
So, yay, Dublin! I didn't have nearly enough time to really see the city, but hopefully I will find myself there again someday.
And now, I am going to figure out whether I should nap, or not, or eat, or not, because mostly, my body is confused.
Welcome back! The photos are great, it looks beautiful there. I'm glad you had a great time. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm in awe.
ReplyDeleteSuch magic in these photos!
(How could my great great great grandparents have left this? I mean, starvation is a good enough reason I suppose but... but....)
Welcome back, you were truly missed. :)
ReplyDeleteVertigo, thank you! That was so sweet, I have a big smile on my face. I have the next post waiting in my head, but first I am trying to catch up on everyone else's posts, to see what I missed. And fight the jetlag. Which I might just give up fighting in about an hour and take myself to bed. But I am telling myself I have to at least wait until it is dark out to go to sleep.
ReplyDeleteAh, I remembered when I flew to Cambridge, UK (via Toronto!!!) to start my masters degree at Cambridge University. Imagine my excitement and happiness... when I got there my jetlag resembled the worse hangover known to humanity. I stayed inside the hotel for 3 days and didn't bother to visit the University. I know what you are going through. :)
