Sigh.

  1. Sadtimes?

I've found PDD to be both a blessing and a curse. It's funny because I've heard people say dumb shit like this, and it's sad because I've heard people say dumb shit like this...including close friends, and they wrinkle their faces when I try to point it out.

  2. DEFINITELY SADTIMES. I would like to stop crying for more than a few hours at a time now! That said, it's just a matter of getting through it - I am not in crisis or anything.

Yeah, PDD, mostly I love it. I have had people say those exact things, too, and at the time when they say them you feel like you are going crazy with the anger and the awfulness of it, but then you read that everyone else has had to hear those same dumbfuck things, and I don't know, it makes you fell less crazy. Also, the picture. The picture is genius.

My new retort when someone says some privileged thing is to say, "Hey, they made a tumblr just for you!" Really, I have said this. Because they are like, "What?" but I am already laughing.

    LOL FOREVER.

That picture you posted makes especially good use of the stock photo guy, I think, because his facial expression is so smugly expectant.

  4. haha, the poor guy in the picture! He thinks "I'm going to sell some photos of me looking fashionable and shit, this is gonna be big, gonna be the prince of istock photo, get a movie deal..."
And now he is the face of Smug Ignorance!
But it is pretty spot on, I agree.

on the subject of so-bad-it's-funny, my friend linked me to this:

somehow I don't see many maxim readers making much progress on that one.
Hopefully it amused rather than annoyed!
And I hope you feel better soon!

PS I'm going to have to use that tumblr line :)

  6. Ed, wait, was that page NOT A SPOOF? Was that SERIOUS? Was that run in Maxim unironically?

And thanks for the good wishes! I have fucked off work this morning and have instead stayed in bed to read the Don DeLillo story in Harper's, and this was a good plan, mental health-wise.

When I worked in a coffee shop for a summer when I was 21, my fellow baristas and I had a running joke about how I would find a new, creative way to burn myself every goddamn day. I feel like this kind of ontologically describes my life right now.
